Let's scale the provision of extremely nounish public goods through culturally relevant activations. Ultimately empowering action sportspeople to uplift their communities with the first "never-ending expression session."
ie. Our subculture's rendition of the nouns virtuous cycle.
Gnars is an extension (fork) of Nouns dedicated to supporting the artistry of extreme athletes. We've sponsored over a dozen skateboarders, snowboarders, surfers, scooter riders, inline skaters, roller skaters, skiers and an entire motorcycle club.
Since receiving 69 ETH to get started just 7 months ago, we've attracted millions of views on our nounish content, caught the attention of industry icons such as Bob Burnquist and have been onboarding people in extremely nounish ways, like these 1.5M views with Tom Rohrer:
Most recently we've been making a splash in Brazil thanks to our involvement with I LOVE XV, an annual skateboarding event in its 10th year. With a budget of just 6 ETH those involved brought together 1000+ skaters in Rio de Janeiro to shred the biggest noggles ever made:
Not only did they produce terabytes of incredible content, our Brazilian crew provided the inspiration for this proposal. We learned that instead of just sponsoring individuals, we should empower them to uplift their communities as a whole:
Now we're an internet collective of over 750 members ready to actualise our subculture's rendition of the "nouns virtuous cycle." We will establish the first "never-ending expression session" to power our CC0 media machine.
Gnars have funded over 30 proposals, submitted the first nounish DAO to DAO proposal (origin), cast the first nounish cross-DAO vote (federation.wtf) and have led by example to help countless nounish builders.

Packing everything we've done into a 90 second video is near impossible, so we hope what made the cut serves as a memento for those who collect it. Brazil taught us that cultural relevance is incredibly important. For example, the giant noggles you've seen people skating are permanently installed in Rio de Janeiro at Praça XV, alongside other iconic urban sculptures installed each year by Coletivo XV.
Our giant noggles are in the same town square as the giant skateboard, one of the most photographed landmarks in Rio, third only to Christ the Redeemer and Sugar Loaf which are both globally recognisable.
The ability to do more activations like what we've seen in Brazil depends on the roll-out of the greatest onboarding effort Nouns has ever seen. Let's explore some of the ways we plan on scaling:
Gnars DAO has attracted builders who've paved the way with their creative approaches to activating their communities. Many hail from emerging markets where we can have an outsized impact and their values are already closely aligned with ours as crypto natives.
Prop House allows us to run mandated funding rounds each season that will see builders competing for the opportunity to uplift their respective communities. Each round will fund activations as described below and we've already received expressions of interest from suitable candidates throughout South America, Africa, Asia and more.
Builders funded each round will be equipped with everything they need for public goods delivery through thoughtful and culturally relevant activations. Leaning on our experience in Brazil, we'll help motivated individuals become local heroes.
Our community will help them to implement nounish obstacles, crypto wallets and NFTs (10% of Gnars are for onboarding), merch and stickers, photo walls and banners, and to receive delivery of remuneration, Noun 189 skateboards and various types of noggles.
We're not looking for "flash in the pan" type events and are committed to the pursuit of the "nouns virtuous cycle." We will leverage hashtags like #ThatsGnarly across all platforms to launch ongoing crowd-sourced social media campaigns.
Such a rudimentary approach removes all barriers to entry so that the first step in joining the movement is simply posting to a hashtag. We can meet newcomers where they already express themselves, curate the best content based on impact and prepare creators for a Web3 revolution.
Revolution is a protocol from House of Nouns (and gnars.house) designed to enable the earning of governance rights through contributions other than capital. We are working closely with the team to give Gnars holders a reddit-like curatorial experience for content submitted to #ThatsGnarly.
Content surfaces on a Web3 leaderboard at thatsgnar.ly after being submitted by extreme sports creators across social media. Competing in the "gnarketplace" for attention, top performing content is minted and sold as NBA Topshot style NFTs in daily auctions – ie. Prop House for tricks.
Trick NFTs released under CC0, Gnars NFTs drawn from 10% of supply already allocated to athlete/artist onboarding and each GNAR is equal to one Gnars DAO governance vote.
We're a passionate community with domain expertise who know very well the agility required to succeed. Our plans are subject to change and funds will be disbursed through our own proven governance, but this should give you some idea of what to expect:
Skateboard production and shipping, existing skate park refurbishments, localised merchandise production, Nouns Vision and Bigshot noggles, fabrication of more giant noggles and so much more.
Additional locations where sculpture installation is not allowed will be activated using NFC enabled "⌐◨-◨" beacons that prompt visitors to get involved.
This is a rough mockup of small indestructible noggle fixtures that can be glued discreetly at existing spots without degrading an obstacle's user experience.
Since inception, our community have had access to Noun 189 in order to participate in Nouns DAO governance. The time has come for Gnars DAO to acquire two Nouns of their own. Enough funds to purchase 2 Nouns will be allocated to auction bidding.
Additional funds from our ongoing NFT auctions will bolster this funding request, further efforts laid out in this proposal, and allow us to continue onboarding professional team riders who represent us throughout their respective industries as ambassadors.
As required we will provide remuneration through governance to top notch contributors already attracted to Gnars including Gami, Alberto, Akva, Vlad, Sam Mason de Caires, Brian, Rocketman, Benbodhi, Davin, Satori, Lochie and Knowhow92. We will approach these engagements on a competitive basis much like our activations.
We've been working hard to gain qualitative insight and to establish the most effective operational structure. As a community we have access to unrivalled industry expertise through our relationships with pro athletes, artists, media and brands. We look forward to inspiring many more of our connections through the very same thing that's gotten us to where we are – word of mouth.
