didnt think i had so much to say about this until i read mikegood vwr. immediately clear to me he has the most nounish take.
i think coral's point about brand referencing (& cc0 licensing as pre-requisite mentioend by 41) make sense as reasons for an against vote, but unsure if downvoting for aesthetic reasons is healthy culturally, in a dynamic quorum governance context. is brett attacking the protocol with 90's vibes?

an alternative would be to abstain and see if the head has enough positive support to make it through (could increase quorum requirement if not satisfied with current limit or have a different dynamic quorum requirement over Noundry submissions). feels odd to say hell no to someone's earnest self-expression.. maybe we can move towards a more optimistic governance norm in future.

just at the practical level imagine if we were faced with 1000 separate trait props/ easier to simply not vote and have a higher threshold and possibly a bit less discouraging idk

I like this head.

I do see the point about extra detail/shadow as has been mentioned, but I think Coral's vote right off the bat was somewhat unfair with the way he cherry picked the flattest and simplest heads to compare with and how that potentially sets the tone. But fair is not what we're doing here, so I digress.

I also find the statement that "the majority of FOR votes right now come from people with an arguably vested interest" to be off base. Yes, Brett has friends in nouns that like his art, but I don't see how anyone voting for this trait would see a financial gain or similar.

And as for the apparent desire to only add traits that are not being used anywhere else already, I understand that, but disagree. Nouns can use external playgrounds to source the best and most popular traits from a wide audience and I think there's potential for traits to be used elsewhere, see demand, then subsequently be added to nouns.

There's apparently a fine line between fun and stuffiness with art and I think we've somehow found ourselves at the intersection. I lean less serious and more fun as I write this.

Stoked to see the noundry process in action, I love the whole notion of noundry and hope it continues to foster amazing pixels from global artists and we can add some to the collection.

Maybe there is a flatter version that would work, but there's a few aspects of pushback for this trait in general as I see it now.

+1 to both mikegood and coralorca, lots of good points on both sides. i resonate with both, but lean more towards coralorca's perspective that traits should match the original, and we should have high standards for adding new traits.

I also agree with mike's point that we don't want to exhaust both voters and artists unnecessarily, and hope we can give more clarity on best practices to artists going forward.

I thought coralorca's feedback on how to design worthy traits (in their opinion at least) was super helpful in this regard. I'd recommend adding a few bulletpoints along those lines to Noundry to set expectations and recommend best practices to artists that plan to propose new traits.

All that said, big fan of Brett as well as the squirt gun head. I respect that those with deep understanding and vision for nouns traits would like to see changes made before adding it to the collection, but am voting yay out of solidarity and respect for making this art and pioneering this process. 🤞 for a v2 that we can all get behind.

Torn on this one, ultimately agree with Coral & Brennen. With Coral mainly on small aesthetic things, with Brennen on the desired origin of new Nouns heads.

Majority of "For" votes right now come from people with an arguably vested interest. Personally I'd like Nouns heads to be "Nouns Originals" and not be directly affiliated with any sub-organization.

This is a cool trait, but the mouth isn't a great fit for me. Maybe if it was on the right side of the head.

I get the feedback; but honestly, also doesn't feel like something we should be so serious about. So voting yes out of principle and bc i like to see random art get submitted and not go through weeks of group-think/selection. Let your hair down a little, nouns. have fun- life ain't perfect. Also, <3 brett. Guy is nounish af and here for all the right reasons.

I'd love to see more new traits added beyond just the once a year 8 that have been added the past two years. Yellow Collective auctions have been more exciting lately to me than nouns auctions due to the fun, new traits. I'd like to see this same excitement brought to Nouns. Starting with this nostalgic addition as well as others (Mr. Boney's pengu next please!).

While I respect the opinions of many of the detractors on this one, and it looks like it may be a done deal, I have to vote with my heart. I’ve loved this noun head from the first moment I saw it. I think it’s very colorful, fun and nostalgic, and it reminds me of amazing summer days spent running around barefoot in the grass with the neighborhood kids, playing with Super Soakers and water balloons. Joy and nostalgia are v nounish to me and this head evokes them.

From a more technical perspective, I think the subtle shading Brett used actually fits in pretty well with many other heads in the collection like coffee mug, piggy bank and macaroni, to name a few.

Love the squirt gun! However, I think Nouns should have OG art that people then use as CC0. I don't like the idea of using art from Yellow Collective or other Sub-communities. But damn the Squirt head rocks!

Would also add that we should require a release from the submitting artist that commits to CC0, since adding a trait that we all assume is CC0 and then artist pursues damages later isn't out of the question. I'll be sending the Foundation's release template to Coral.

personally think the trait is very nounish. I think a good trait should (1) be legible enough for anyone to quickly understand what it is (2) and generally be a symbol for nounish values. A squirt gun to me is something that is symbolic of youthful play, and I feel is plenty nounish.

I am 100% for more traits by more artists and am grateful to Brett for submitting their art to Nouns.

The concept of the head is quite nounish imo, but the design is not cohesive with the rest of the collection.

On a general note:
I believe the barrier to entry for submitting new traits should be very low –thank you coralorca.eth and volky.eth for their work on studio.noundry.wtf and noundry-gallery.wtf and making it easier than ever to understand what a Nouns trait should be, create one, and submit one to the DAO. This proposal is a celebration of their vision coming to life.
But I also believe the bar for accepting new traits to be added should be very high. It is after all, the foundation of the project which the Nouns meme(s) rest on. It should always remain as cohesive, beautiful, absurd, and aspirational as it can, all at once.

I really want more and more Noundry designs coming over to the DAO (and potentially deprecating some), but this one doesn't seem too much "onbrand" imo.
It has too many details and we should be a bit "harsh" in the beginning setting clear boundaries on what gets in and what gets out.

Hopping you forget me for voting no on this one Brett, you are doing an amazing job and I really want to see a future proposal similar to this one where we can add another trait to the collection. Thank you so much buddy!

As a Noundry founder, I'm committed to having the DAO incorporate new traits from community artists. However, there's a risk of the collection becoming 'diluted.'
Its CC0 nature already pushes Nouns design space to the extreme, so when it comes to onchain pixels, I believe we should stick to the underlying canon as much as possible.

This is why I’m voting against this proposal: I like the design but don’t think it integrates well with the original collection.

There are too many details and small elements, an excess of shadows and not enough connection with the noun's collar - making it look unstable.
This contrasts with the original nouns, which are made of simpler, cleaner shapes and sit well on the shoulders.

Also note we probably should avoid mentioning specific brands when submitting cc0 pixels.

Sorry for voting against this time, a big thank you Brett for contributing so many traits to the gallery and for testing the trait-to-candidate flow! It will be interesting to see if the DAO can make curatorial votes.
