The contents of this proposal were not part of our 2024 scope, but similar to Prop 198 "The Nounsvitational" when we have a talented builder & T.O. entering our ecosystem (Ohan) our core team feels compelled to support them onchain. We hope to see more proposals from top esports/gaming talent down the road.

I expect these events to be some of the highest quality in Smash and that we'll reflect positively on how delightful each of these ended up being! GGWP

lunari: super nounish, much proliferation!! if Nouns Esports wouldn't have given us a chance, we probably wouldn't be voting here today :]. Regardless of subjective views on gaming/esports/etc, there's no denying that the audience is loving Nouns. It's awesome to see Nouns Esports putting extra resources to empowering them too, with Gamer's Outreach, David's Cup, Semphis becoming a fitness/wellness pillar for the community, etc.

tokkis: being a former melee player, these super majors are so big & helpful for the scene!! only a few orgs carry the (tournament) scene, so I think it's a really big way to get the nouns name out there in a super positive light, and I think the scene will be so happy about it.

The Nouns Esports team continues to be our best proflieration beyond web3. Excited to see where they go next!

The fact that Nouns Esports is making serious inroads with gamers, a notoriously anti-crypto community, is all that it takes for me to immediately vote in favor of this proposal.

It’s pretty incredible to read about this proposal on a Reddit thread where people in the Smash community are actively discussing Nouns. This level of organic engagement is precisely the kind of proliferation we should expect from the projects we fund. Sasquatch and the team are doing an impeccable job in not only executing their vision but also in spreading awareness about Nouns in a way that resonates with their audience and lowers the barriers that are currently up when the community hears words like ‘NFT’ or ‘web3’.

I have full confidence in the team's ability to deliver on their promises and exceed our expectations.

We are far enough into this experiment to double down on our winners and fund things we are confident will be a Smash success my Brothers.

Nouns Esports is one of our most successful verticals. I do agree with supriyo on some aspects, but also want to highlight the lack of community focused events outside of web3 which is why I think extra budget requests from well funded orgs are a good thing.

The budget doesn't seem inflated for event productions at this scale and from what I've seen about the smash community, this is exactly what we should be doing.

Dota next!

Nouns has been gaining a lot of momentum in the Smash scene recently, and this proposal provides us the opportunity to scale up our presence through IRL events. I believe the grassroot nature of the Smash scene makes it really easy for its community to understand and get involved in the DAO.

I have no doubt this is worth doing. Team delivers, and we’re fortunate to have their passion driving nouns in this arena.

I agree with the concerns brought up by supriyo, but I view this event as valuable. Big asks should be as all inclusive as possible going forward, and we should make sure not to set a precedent here. One off exceptions are perfectly fine - no planning is perfect - but the bar should be higher for them

I believe the smash community is one of the biggest underground and grass roots driven gaming communities that nouns can have a significant impact on.

Im for and would love to see Nouns Esports activation in Brazil soon.

• This prop is coming from nounsesports who are one of the better executors within the nounsphere so I am sure this will pass.
• The event in itself is great and seems to generate overall excitement inside the broader esports community as well. Meelee event is perfect because of their community’s bottoms up nature.
• Nounsesports is unapologetically onchain org :) which is most synergetic to its roots of origin i.e. the DAO.

However, I will be abstaining to spark a discussion (not voting against) with general broad thoughts -

• We have several large orgs and initiatives funded by Nouns (Nouns movie falls in this bracket too). Esports org has a 2 mil$ a yr run/burn. Nouns fest is of similar scale.

• Between a total budget of almost ~4 mil between nounsfest and esports, I am hard pressed and struggling to understand there there was no budgetary planning for side events (1 of the 3 proposed events here). Treasury is finite so bigger funded orgs has an outsized responsibility to perhaps be more fiscally conservative and not create more line-items on top of their spend as it takes capital away from other potential props that could come through. Alternatively, You could also argue against saying this is a form of doubling-down on your winners? It’s a stretch though with huge delta between inflow and outflow.

• Bigger orgs can also lead by example by doing “more with less” which can come through in form of subsidized costs, finding sponsors, or nixing spends altogether if you cannot fit that in your operating budget (events should be covered in it) .

I am just hoping the orgs will perhaps plan better before their next annual budgetary prop comes through for misc expenses like these and avoid impromptu proposals that just makes for more responsible and mature fiscal planning.

I have been critical about the costs of esports in the past. (Probably to myself)

But that was mostly just a large numbers thing.

Esports IMO has maybe had the single best cross over proliferation… Possibly outshining Gnars on that front.

E gaming getting a ‘less bad’ taste and thoughts of NFT/Crypto that don’t feel SCAM! For investors, this Horrible to less bad is the sweet spot. Feed what’s working. Esports is working.

The Esports investments have been very valuable for propagating Nounish culture, and the SSB melee community has extremely similar vibes.
