i too share a bit of the sentiment that this prop might be better split up a bit to validate the thesis and execution a bit more (we don’t often go from 0 to $200k esp in the current mkt environment) but i’m voting yes bc i think this prop has the important higher order bit right which is that network society community / popup cities <> nouns is a direction we should strongly encourage and foster and that those spaces are INCREDIBLY rich environments for future nouners, builders, and fans.

that fact is evidenced by the fact that carlos is willing to put down a list of nouners that he onboarded (net new buyers) and is willing to be judged on that metric for his current proposed prop as well. what other IRL activation prop has proposed to be judged in that way? but it makes sense. if you walk into like a edge city / zuzalu type context then the density of ppl that are already living an ethereum / onchain life is 100x an average nft conference. also it’s just not the eth exposure, it’s the particular blend of appreciation for sovereignty, experimentation, fringe communities that make them a perfect environment to find future nouns citizens.

what i hoped to see more from this prop actually (and maybe carlos can still weave it in) is to try to drive more existing nouns fans and builders to come to and meet at these pop up cities and live and work together. a lot of nouns ppl have deep connections and are willing to travel to meet and spend time together. they will likely very much love these environments naturally. also what better way to convince ppl nouns is special and awesome than for there to be actual nouns sub communities present at these places? so my hope is carlos can play a role in trying to drive nouns folks to all come to one or two of these places and then use some of the budge to create a shared space or coordinate events like dinners and happy hours type things for those ppl to feel like they aren’t going into these spaces blind and rather have a nouns community there that’s excited for them to join. i’ll probably be at a few of these as well! thinking of popping in sometime at the edge city one in thailand, zugarden after devcon also in thailand, and possibly network school as well to support balaji and the network state movement.

(also side note the line items are big so i don’t know if totally right from ROI perspective but there is something that i like about nouns subsidizing something tangible and really beneficial to the resident of these popup cities like childcare and saunas rather than like some sponsorship package where your logo just appears on many marketing material)

I like to think that a lot about this concept can serve as a desirable North Star. Based on the extensive list of events to attend, 12(!!) objectives and the fact that this requires a lot of traveling for an entire year, I’m flip flopping about voting FOR.

Ultimately I’m voting AGAINST, because I would rather want to see Carlos being able to do this forever. I highly value Carlos POV and contributions.

It would be a hell yes from me to fund Carlos to go to 3-6 of those events, do the core of the activations listed - which he know works - with only 2 main objectives:

• figure out a viable business to become self sufficient to do this every day forever.
• cultivate the activations that result in auction participations of new members.

I like the overall concept for this prop but would like to see a smaller version that includes the Singapore only as a start. I do see the value in those activations and believe that Carlos would be a great nounish ambassador.

Carlos is extremely nounish. I first encountered him in the space almost two years ago when he was running an initiative called Web 3 Beach in Honduras, organizing beach cleanups and paying volunteers in USDC (onboarding them to a wallet in the process.)

Since then I’ve watched him bring that infectious energy and passion for (real) onboarding everywhere he goes, and I was very excited when he decided to join Nouns.

I have to say that normally I might be skeptical about the potential impact of sending individual ambassadors to these types of conference, even if they might have the best of intentions. Everyone going to these conferences has limited bandwidth and I’m just not sure how easy it will be to break through and make an impression.

But Carlos has an uncanny ability to break through the barrier of attention scarcity and get people excited about Nouns, maybe better than anyone I’ve seen. His success at Metacamp is a great example of this, and I’ve seen it elsewhere recently too, like how he got Elchicodelosplantos excited about collaborating with Nouns Esports in Peru and planting trees for Nouns and Ricmoo excited about hacking on Nounish hardware.

Ultimately, my FOR vote here is a huge “Let him cook” bet on one of the most Nounish people I’ve met.

Also I’ve already told Carlos at the Nouncil meeting that since he has already zeroed out the podcast production line item in this version of the prop, TNS will happily share our podcasting tools with him and help him with onchain and offchain distribution as well.

[Unfortunately, it does look like the prop as is may struggle to pass since it missed out on Nouncil approval by a couple votes. I hope Carlos will take some feedback and iterate to find a version that might find slightly broader consensus so we can see his vision come to life this year.]

I’ve attended a number of these events and can attest to the fact that they’re an excellent onboarding space for Nouns. We sponsor many gathering places already - sponsoring people to attend and act as representatives is valuable, and something that more traditional organizations do all the time. This is also more likely to lead to new Nouns participants than other proliferation efforts that we spend more money on, given the close crypto alignment.

As an IRL proliferator, I understand the challenge of bringing in the layman to learn about Nouns. Providing the basic knowledge of what Nouns are to being able to get someone to buy Nouns is a very high achievement.
And I think Carlos has the potential to realize this proposal and bring many people to buy Nouns again! LFG!!

I met Carlos more than a year ago at a hackathon, and ever since, I've witnessed his passion for helping and fostering others in many ways. He has already added value to the DAO. I'm confident Carlos will do an excellent job here, and I'm looking forward to seeing new, thoughtful members join Nouns because of his efforts.

I think conferences are really hard to generate attention the right way. However, if toady trusts carlos, then I trust Carlos. LFG!

I can't say i'm an expert or really know if what this prop is doing will lead to the success it claims. But, Carlos has proved himself able to bring quality members into the DAO and i'll trust that he will continue to do so.

• Generally Im a No on these type of IRL activities, especially at this funding size
• But Carlos claims about his efforts at Metacamp are impressive and noteworthy
• Im curious if the results can be reproduced, and would be happy to fund Carlos testing his thesis on another event
• But im not convinced enough to fund all these events at once
• The personal reasons given to bundle these events are not compelling enough to sway me. If you need to increase your own compensation in order to make it worth it for you personally, i would not mind that (eg, do only Singapore but take enough comp to justify opportunity cost)
• If you do reproduce the results, I would reconsider my stance that IRL events are poor use of funds and be happy to fund more ambitious asks in this vein

i've personally witnessed carlos lead many communities that i love with authenticity and purpose. nouns is no different. he was one of my inspirations for wanting to join nouns. ive seen him play an instrumental role in onboarding new communities to nouns including metacamp, which i am also a member of. my vote is a signal to him being a great nouns ambassador and one that i believe can make this initiative a resounding success.

Apologies for the lack of reason, afk and mostly off grid atm with variety bash.

This is quite expensive and yet it's also unclear what the funding for the specific activations at the actual network cities will go towards. As sewerpump said, I would probably want to see a smaller proposal for just one of these, with more detail fleshed out as to what the funding would go towards. As it stands the proposal appears to just fund the team to travel to these cities with a lack of clarity on how value will flow back to Nouns beyond generically showcasing/talking about it.

Thanks for your feedback sewerpump.eth. My north star for value creation for Nouns is attracting buyers and builders. Beyond directly influencing the purchase of five Nouns through my contributions, I've consistently brought talented teams to Nouncil calls to pitch their candidate projects. This includes, metacamp, decentdao, futurealica & ricmoo , elchicodelas plantas, bamwoo. Projects to come include Raid Guild, River Clean Up Indonesia, Ocean Sole, Yirs, and a few others.

One other objective is to create more plurality in governance by supporting communities in their participation through direct governance and a other tools like zeroweight. This is a great opportunity to retain talented builder communities and have them build and govern with us. These communities are full of eth/ nouns aligned folk, it's a great opportunity for converting them to live players in the dao.

I've eliminated lots of the splashy marketing and kept the necessary costs allowing us to show support and alignment with communities I feel we should coordinate with.

Whilst i want to believe this will result in 30+ nouns being purchased at auction (~2 a month) and pay for itself, i'm of the opinion that you should target a smaller number and attempt to overdeliver, then come back for more funding with even more justification as to why it is/was worth it. That being said I do believe you can do it but the risk is too high here to commit 8% the projected inflow over the next year imo.
