NNS Labs Season 3 - Final Act ⌐◨-◨ (updated)
We sincerely thank everyone, voters and non-voters alike, who took the time to provide feedback. We carefully reviewed all constructive input before resubmitting NNS Labs Season 3. It was also inspiring to see such strong support and unity from voters and communities around a common vision.
One of our main goals is to create unity in the nouniverse, not only among communities but also among people. Which is why we are addressing here some feedback from the previous prop hoping to clear all doubts.
In particular:
1. Funding request. Rather than shortening the proposal’s duration from 12 months to 6 or compromising the quality of outputs, we decided to absorb the reduction internally. Which is why we went from our previous ask of $576k to $398k.
We are firmly committed to both completing our vision and ensuring we reach self-sustainability within the year.
By taking off 30% from the ask, we aim to alleviate doubts, make the request more palatable for everyone, and reduce the DAO's risk while delivering even greater value in return.
2. This is not a memecoin prop. This prop is about NNS Labs and our mission of creating vertical products to increase onboarding and inflow for communities. NOGS has admittedly experienced more utility and adoption growth compared to our other products, but it is still only a fraction of our pipeline. As its utility and infrastructure grows, the term “memecoin” is probably getting misleading and reductive. On this matter, we are constantly getting feedbacks and ideas from nouners and we’re working on a more fitting placement.
3. Adapting and evolving. We’ve always seen our ability to adapt and evolve quickly, while still delivering according to the market and trends as a strength of ours, not a weakness. Just as we edit and evolve our products following feedback from the community, to make sure we provide what the nounish ecosystem actually wants, we believe staying alert and receptive to how the ecosystem shifts and evolve it’s paramount for a constant-evolving reality like Nouns. One of our goals is to stay (and remain) relevant, but most importantly we don’t want the DAO to invest into something that risks becoming obsolete due to lack of flexibility.
4. NOGS evolution: A couple of feedback regarding NOGS launch, or better its evolution, took us by surprise, so we want to clarify our stance. Ever since the launch of the very first version in Summer 2023, we’ve constantly been in touch and collecting feedback from several communities and members of the ecosystem. Its first big update came after listening to these feedbacks for almost a year, when we realised its first structure was limited compared to what people wanted. NOGS as a fungible token was part of our second mandate, that's why we decided to evolve it following every input we received, no matter how small or crazy it might have seemed at the time.
What has never changed, however, is the fact that NOGS was never (and never will be) exclusively linked to NNS but to activity in the broader nounish ecosystem, which is why it has separate channels and communication.
Today, also thanks to all those input we received from the ecosystem, NOGS has an infrastructure that is already having a positive impact, of which the potential has yet to be fully exploited.
Noone can know what the future holds, today the DAO certainly isn’t the same DAO of two years ago. For this very reason, we’ll always remain receptive to the ecosystem, always trying to deliver to the best of our abilities.
That said, we hope this helps clarify our vision and our path forward.
Prop Summary
NNS Labs is a development hub founded in 2022 and laser focused on the Nouns ecosystem.
Our mission is to create products and infrastructures that can allow Nouns and other communities to avoid relying only on auctions, leveraging a diverse set of (non forkable) revenue streams that evolves with the DAOs and the current metas.
Every product launched during our mandates works in synergy with the others, creating subsequent value and revenue streams so that the entire funded amount can be recovered, also adding further long term profit and exponential onboarding.
$NOGS, for one, is the first token in the Nouniverse to provide holders with tangible benefits through active participation in the nounish ecosystem.
NNS is an open source (GPLv3 licence) platform and first protocol to share 95% of its revenues with the community.
Noggles Club is our most recent experiment that instantly adds new utility to every nounish NFT and channel on Farcaster and boosts visibility for projects and builders.
After two successful six-month terms, we now propose a third and last 12-month mandate to complete this vision, intensifying NOGS and NNS development and building a core set of infrastructures with the goal not only allow the DAO to recover the whole funded amount, but also to support the growth of the nounish ecosystem forever.
Momentum and Results
In the last mandate, NOGS and NNS reached major milestones, including $2M+ liquidity, 75k holders, revenue assets like Resolver and Referral Rewards and .nouns names that will fund the NounsDAO treasury in the long term.
With the rebranding of NNS, the protocol now gives 95% of the revenue generated by the sales of the .⌐◨-◨ names back to the ecosystem, split between Referrals and Resolvers.
Next Goal
In this next mandate, we aim to expand NOGS and NNS, launch Noggles Club as a standalone platform and create new onboarding and revenue opportunities for the ecosystem.
Products will be open sourced under a GPLv3 licence following the same path of NNS.
We request a stream of $398k to drive these efforts over 12 months, focusing on development and community engagement.
Revenue Contributions and Assets to the DAO from the Previous Mandate
Not considering the $4M worth of airdrop to Nouns, Lils and Gnars holders during NOGS launch, with the previous six-month mandate of $248k we generated substantial returns and assets for the DAO:
- $NOGS Allocation: Thanks to the token design of NOGS, a total of 3.6B $NOGS, valued approximately $125K based on the current 1.8M market cap, have been associated with Nouns and Lil Nouns stored in NounsDAO treasury. This amount will be moved from the NFTs into NounsDAO treasury within 2 weeks.
- Nouns Investments: Invested $27K in auctions and $9K in secondary market, securing 3 Nouns to expand governance participation to every holder.
- LP Fee Reallocation: Reinvested 16 ETH in LP fees, directly benefiting Nouns, Lil Nouns, Gnars, and other sub-communities, set for completion within two months.
- New Recurring Revenue Assets: Successfully launched Resolver and Referral Rewards and .nouns names, establishing a new first of recurring revenue assets for the DAO.
Revenue Contributions and Assets Goals for This Mandate
The following goals are designed to benefit NounsDAO significantly and will also be implemented, at a similar scale, across major nounish sub-DAOs, thus multiplying their impact across the Nouniverse:
- $2M+ in Value: Projected from NounsDAO’s allocation of $NOGS.
- $75K+ in Recurring Revenue: Expected from Resolver and Referral Rewards and .nouns names.
- New Revenue Stream: Launching additional recurring revenue channels from new infrastructures.
Accomplishments from the Previous Mandate
✅ Evolved NNS into an Open Identity Protocol: Executed a full NNS rebranding. Transformed from a .⌐◨-◨ domain provider into a comprehensive, revenue-sharing identity protocol that directly benefits users and communities alike.
✅ $4M worth of $NOGS airdropped to Nouns, Lils and Gnars during NOGS launch: Launched a dynamic airdrop system linked to the ownership of nounish NFTs and unlock % influenced by the age of the NFTs and their governance activity.
✅ Noteworthy Market Influence ("$NOGS Effect"): Observed substantial ecosystem impact during the $NOGS launch, including a 30% increase in Nouns auction prices, an 80% spike in Gnars auctions, and a 400% lift in Lils floor prices.
✅ $NOGS Transitioned to a High-Liquidity Ecosystem Token: Progressed from a social token tracking nounish activity to a substantial ecosystem token with over 75k holders and $1.4M+ liquidity, integrated with nounish NFTs and providing direct value to the DAO.
✅ Raised 525 ETH for the $NOGS Liquidity Pool: Demonstrated robust market support and stability for $NOGS, creating a solid base for future community-driven growth.
✅ Launched the First Nouns Debit Card: Partnered with Bcard team to release an innovative financial tool tailored for Nouns users that gives back $NOGS and $NOUNS at every transaction.
✅ Achieved a Viral Impact with $NOGS: Designed a launch campaign that generated over 1,000 social sharing posts within two weeks through X and Farcaster.
✅ Featured on Farcaster's Memecoin Leaderboard: A social and financial study by Andrew Whong of Dune ranked $NOGS 4th among memecoins, recognizing its prominence and engagement within the nounish and larger memecoin communities.
✅ Farcaster Tipping and Governance Integration: Developed a Farcaster tipping system resulting in over 4,500 tips sent, along with a governance system allowing $NOGS holders to vote on a Nouns’ pool decisions.
✅ Launched .nouns Names for Recurring DAO Revenue: Created a new revenue stream directly contributing to the NounsDAO treasury.
✅ Noggles Club v.0 Success: Rolled out the initial version of Noggles Club, an engaging reward system for $NOGS holders that brought entire communities into the nounish ecosystem through viral drops.
✅ Launched the first reward system applied to Nouncil: Designed to reward every voter with a fraction of $NOGS from the 38 Nouns in the Nouncil pool.
Objectives for the Upcoming Mandate
- Double Down on $NOGS: Focus on expanding $NOGS and developing innovative products that enhance its utility and impact within the ecosystem.
- Launch of a white-label platform to open our infrastructure: Allow $NOUNS, projects and communities to leverage the infrastructure we built for $NOGS. This includes capabilities for social tipping, customizable reward dynamics, integrated governance systems, identity systems powered by NNS and much more.
- Noggles Club v.1: Upgrade and rebrand Noggles Club into a full-featured, standalone platform accessible to users and communities both in and outside the nouniverse.
- Revenues for the ecosystem: Now that NNS revenues are shared with the ecosystem, our focus will be increasing the revenues for Nouns and other communities. This will be achieved through the growth of the Resolver network and granting access to every community to their own CLD (Community Level Domain) as through the launch of new products across the year.
This initial roadmap will expand as new experiments and emerging trends shape additional opportunities throughout the year. For example, AI and nounish Virtual Assistants are already in exploration phase and we will be able to share more soon.
Double Down on $NOGS
$NOGS is the first nounish currency experiment. It merges value generation with a growing utility infrastructure. It started as a simple social token with no value. Today, it boasts $2M+ liquidity and 75k holders.
The whole token design of NOGS aims to reward nounish NFTs holders, contribute to DAO’s treasury and provide communities with assets that can be used to grow their user base and engagement.
This will be achieved by:
- NFT Integration: $NOGS is directly incorporated into the NFTs of many nounish DAOs. As $NOGS value grows, so does the value of these NFTs.
- Treasury Exposure: NounsDAO holding of 3.6B $NOGS in its treasury, thanks to the token allocation of Nouns and Lils.
- NOGS Recovery: An upcoming system will transfer $NOGS from forked and (in future) refunded Nouns back to the Nouns treasury, offsetting associated costs and potentially creating a profit stream.
- Community-Driven Growth: Soon, any nounish community will be able to inject $NOGS (and other tokens) into their NFTs, amplifying benefits across the ecosystem.
The developments in place are just glimpses of $NOGS’ potential as it increase its utilities following Nouns ecosystem's growth and evolution.
White-label platform
During our last mandate, we developed a multi-level infrastructure around $NOGS with key features:
- Social Tipping: A unique approach focused on onboarding new users through tipping, allowing communities to recognize and reward contributions in a simple, accessible way.
- Governance System: A governance model that enables holders to influence decisions by voting on how a pool of tokens or NFTs will act in a DAO or community, creating more participatory engagement.
- Automated Reward System: Customizable parameters linked to NFTs or social actions automatically unlock token allocations, encouraging community members to stay active and engaged.
In this new mandate, we’ll fully open this infrastructure through a white-label platform, with continual upgrades as we introduce new features.
This approach offers many benefits:
- Immediate Integration for Any Token and Community: $nouns and any other project and community can quickly leverage this platform, accessing tools for tipping, rewards, and governance right from the start.
- Enhanced Governance and Rewards: Communities can adopt specific features that improve governance dynamics or offer unique ways to reward users, fostering greater interaction and commitment.
- Alignment with Emerging Trends: Nouns can align with the latest trends, giving new projects a ready-made infrastructure for user engagement.
After two years of building for the Nouns ecosystem, we’ve proven the impact of a vertical infrastructure approach on growth and onboarding.
This platform will significantly expand $NOGS, $NOUNS and other tokens reach, inviting new communities and builders into their ecosystem with minimal friction.
Noggles Club v.1
The Nouns ecosystem bursts with creativity. Each day brings new artworks, NFTs, and physical products. But their impact often fades after a short-lived hype or a single Round on Farcaster.
The Problems
- There’s no streamlined way to maximize the proliferation of nounish creations.
- Artists and builders face challenges reaching new users, especially beyond the ecosystem.
- The ecosystem lacks tools to evaluate and amplify the impact of high-quality physical nounish products.
Our Solution: Noggles Club
Noggles Club transforms products from the nouniverse and beyond into viral, raffle-based drops that engage the community. It aggregates the best creations from top builders and special partners, offering daily opportunities for users to discover and win products with their tickets.
Noggles Club Dynamics
- Shared Platform: Each nounish community gets a weekly ticket allocation to distribute among members on Farcaster.
- New Ecosystem Asset: Tickets boost interactions and grow the Farcaster community, increasing Noggles Club users.
Noggles Club brings daily excitement to nounish creations, expanding reach, engagement, and proliferation impact across the Nouniverse.
A glimpse of Noggles Club v.0
Each drop in Noggles Club v.0 offers more than a prize: it’s an introduction to a project and its creator. Each drop includes links and information about the builder, showcasing their work to the community.
Members use tickets to enter the drops they want. In this v.0, for every 1M NOGS held, they receive 1 weekly ticket, plus additional tickets from every nounish community on Farcaster.
Users can earn extra tickets by sharing the product card on X and Farcaster, amplifying both the product’s reach and their chances to win.
During the developments of NOGS and NNS we went through 3 short seasons of Noggles Club daily drops, each one with incremental improvements.
Here are the achievements of the Noggles Club v.0 over a total of 56 drops:
- 573 unique participants
- 6819 tickets used
- +800 sharing posts on X and Farcaster
Revenues for the Ecosystem
With the rebranding of the NNS, we now retains only 5% of revenue from .⌐◨-◨ names sales.
The remaining 95% is given back to the community, split between Resolvers and Referrals. This structure incentivizes projects and individuals to actively spread the meme, and with NOGS-based rewards, drives greater engagement within the ecosystem.
Additionally, our growing network of Resolvers will be accessible to any community that wants to build its own CLD. The real challenge in creating a naming system lies in ensuring that domains resolve across multiple platforms. Through NNS, every new CLD gains immediate access to this Resolver network, achieving platform-wide recognition from day one.
With this new mandate, we will continue on this course, with a focus on establishing a steady and growing recurring revenue system for Nouns and every community in the nouniverse.
Requested Funding (updated)
We are asking for:
- A payment stream of $28k per month for 12 months that will cover the operations of our team and our monthly initiatives
- $60k that will give us more flexibility to organize the on demand tasks during the first period
This funding will allow us to expand development, grow community engagement, and maximize the impact of our products across the Nouniverse.
Budget Breakdown:
- Core Team: $8k per person (2) per month to support our core team ($192k).
- Engineering: $7k per month for an additional engineer, plus one part-time dev focused on NNS global integrations ($84k).
- Community & Content: $3k per month for community management, meme creation, and contributors ($36k).
- Noggles Club & Marketing: $4k per month for rewards, prizes, and marketing initiatives for Noggles Club ($48k).
- Design: $38k for design.
Total Requested: $398k
A personal note
There’s a lot of talk in the DAO on the current situation of the treasury and about ways to increase the yearly inflow in the long term while also keeping alive a powerful Nouns Virtuous Cycle.
I strongly believe NNS Labs can support the DAO and unlock important resources for the broader ecosystem, and that it can continue to boost onboarding and proliferation through our vertical infrastructures.
We're fully committed to and confident in our products, all while staying humble and being able to evolve and adapt when the ecosystem requires it.
I sincerely hope that absorbing 30% of the ask from the previous proposal internally can be a further proof of our commitment.
