Nouns Breakers summer competition in Slovakia
We are a break dancing team mostly based in Latin America where support for artists and athletes or access to grants is very limited compared to Europe or North America. Ever since we got funded through Nouns our team grew and we have been breaking barriers one step at a time, from supporting our local communities to representing and qualifying at top world competitions around the world, our dreams have come true little by little
We are changing the narrative and making history by being the first breaking international team funded by crypto. Mainly for us the biggest challenge is funding but we see the difference ever since the Olympics of Paris 2024 the general public started to understand and appreciate the level of difficulty and discipline it takes to become a professional breaker. Before we used to face lots of discrimination, people thought we where just street kids with no future rolling on dirty floors, but now that Breaking is a recognized around the world things are changing.
We get the chance (again) to represent Nouns and qualify at Outbreak in Slovakia, one of the biggest competitions of the summer season. Last year 2 team members qualified over 500+ bboys from all over the world and we got 3rd place in "Rep your country". This year we seek to qualify in both bgirl and bboy categories as well as team crew.
We will execute everything we laid out on prop 749. Not only our team representing professionally world wide but we have big ideas and projects for our communities like: Restoration of public spaces for the young generation, Nouns kids camp, more collaborations with hip hop jams, Nouns Breakers kids TV (an educational breaking youtube channel), Nouns Bootcamp guided by the US Olympians... etc. We have so many ideas and dreams to accomplish.
Funds will directly go to partially support travel expenses of the team like; flights, accommodation, buses or trains. Getting to Banska Bystrica in Slovakia is not easy or cheap, we usually have to fly to Vienna or Budapest and then take a bus or train to Banska Bystrica.
How is breaking judged? Is it the tricks, the originality or who spins on their head the longest??
Now a days big production events have a judging system scoring: technique, vocabulary, execution, musicality, and originality. Judges use a digital slider to score battles, comparing the breakers in real-time and determining which one is outperforming the other in each category.
The competition dates are July 24-27. All footage will be delivered and uploaded by August 10th the latest.
Yes, we have been building with Nouns consistently since January 2023 when we won our first proposal on the very first round of Nouns Amigos. We have learned through hard work and perseverance that anything is possible and thanks to Nouns there's no limits in what we can accomplish locally and globally.
There is no other team doing what we are doing either in web3 or in Latin America. We are an amazing experiment just like Nouns and our expertise has made us a successful one that delivers over and over again!
The idea started in 2022 after witnessing the lack of resources that Bgirl Monse and Bboy Niño Nino faced on their road to the Olympics. This is when Nouns took an interest on what we had to offer and the potential of it. Our actual team is formed by professional breakers with over 20+ years of experience in worldwide championships in the industry.
We successfully completed and over delivered in our on-chain proposal from 2024. I, Andrea have won and successfully executed 4 proposals with Nouns Amigos as well.
Funds will be used to help the team partially cover traveling expenses like: accommodation, flights, buses or trains. Between 1k and 1.3k per member depending if they have no injuries and are fit and able to travel and compete on those dates.
